Introduction
This introductory article discusses having a positive self-image and self-worth in your business. The latter title is very telling in terms of the subject matter discussed in this blog post.
The term self-image is the way you see yourself in your mirror and how you see yourself internally. Self-worth is an internal state of being that comes from self-understanding, self-love, and self-acceptance. It is unchanged because it is how you value and regard yourself despite what others may think of you or say about you.
In business the above play a big part in your success. Why I say this because without positive self-image and self-worth, you will not be able to imagine yourself as successful and your dealings with your customers and prospects, associates are more likely to be tense due to your tendency to have a negative inclination towards self and adverse life events as well as an aversed reaction towards others.
Demonstrating business positive behaviour
Tolerate frustration well: This is the ability to remain calm when you encounter abusive customers or dismissive behaviour by your customers.
Recently one of our customers displayed avoidance behaviour after placing two website orders for his businesses. We requested the deposit for the order and my customer did not pay the deposit requested despite the friendly reminder sent after the deadlines had passed.
We realised that our customer was very dismissive and trying to get out of paying for ordering our services and the customer's legal right to cancel expired a long time ago. Therefore, we assumed that our customer cancels due to no reply to our request and offer.
We patiently waited and when the date to pay the cancellation fee passed we contacted my customer to no avail. My customer was avoiding our calls, messages, and letters for some reason unbeknown to us.
We contacted our customer in the evening and left a persuasive non-frightening voicemail stating "if no contact; we will initiate court proceedings and it's not worth it to go to this length as the funding issues you are facing could be resolved by our companies talking to each other and see how we could accommodate you".
My customer replied positively with, "Trisha we will revert to you tomorrow morning thank you". This was effective as we received a call, after a lengthy discussion, I offered to cancel the cancellation fee owed and offer a 12-month payment plan to my customer who agreed on the terms and agreed for us to design the company websites, my customer issued us with a heartfelt apology and paid the first instalment and outstanding payment for a previous order.
Seek continuous improvement
It's very important to continue learning when you running your business because you can upskill or learn new skills. You can acquire new knowledge and become an expert in your field and industry.
By becoming an expert you can demonstrate your expertise to your prospect when they ask questions about your product or service. You can gain more customers and referrals to your business by being an expert.
You could get a mentor or a coach to help you grow in business and marketing. You could purchase businesses and marketing books to help you improve your business because by changing your existing marketing you will increase your profitability over time by accessing the right audience.
Interpersonal skill
Interpersonal skill is a social skill facilitating relationships and communication with each other where social rules are formed. Communication can take many forms and exchange can be verbal, nonverbal, or in writing.
When you possess these skills it is called having social skills, however, the lack of it can cause social awkwardness.
Watch this video for a better understanding of the importance of having people skills.
Improving your people skills can lead to successful prospect acquisition, improved relationships with your customers, acquiring new customers, advocacy, and repeat customers as well as order retrieval when a customer becomes dismissive and displays avoidance behaviour for reasons unbeknown to you.
Positive calculated risk
In business, to grow, you will need to take positive risks also known as calculated risks.
Hence, a positive calculated risk just means that you have taken into consideration all the variables of an investment deal and you have carefully estimated your probable outcome. This means your chance of winning is higher than your chance of losing, as you have carried out appropriate research.
For example, your capital investment could be at risk when investing in our The Core Assets + The Cellar with its attached dual implementation support system The Cellar because you did not implement the playbook information and access The Cellar for support and encouragement.
However, your capital will not be at risk if you purchase our manual and implement the information of the manual with or without accessing The Cellar because you will experience over time a return on investment and within a year you will have exceeded the cost of purchasing our manual and increase your business profitability.
The latter is called calculated risk and it is the difference between an unnecessary risk. Let me explain; risks are very scary for many because there is the potential for big losses. Yet there is a major difference in both approaches. Unnecessary risks doom business planning, research, and application therefore, failure is predictable and inevitable.
However, calculated risk at least provides the possibility of accomplishment and success because business planning, research, application of the information, methodology, and technique have been applied and learned.
We mentioned the possibility of accomplishment because the above required the consistency and discipline of application of the information, methodology, and technique.
Assumed responsibility
This just means that you take responsibility and accountability for your actions or fulfil the obligation of someone else's position by taking over the person's job. As an example, the CEO goes on holiday and the Director takes over the CEO's duties while away including their duties for a short time.
There are 5 responsible behaviours that you should uphold:
Honesty
Compassion/respect/empathy
fairness
Accountability
Courage
In business, honesty is the ability to make decisions about people and things based on evidence rather than emotions. Yet it is very easy to make judgments based on what you think and know, however, being honest means that you are willing to consider all the facts before concluding.
As humans, our perception and perspective on occassion can be skewed, however, when we are honest we are willing to accept alternative plausible explanations. Honesty also means that there are aspects of ourselves we need to change.
It's considered dishonest to ourselves and others to think we're perfect because everyone is a work in progress in this life and has room for improvement. Therefore, being honest to oneself means you are willing to accept constructive criticism.
I will not dive into explaining the other 4 criteria of having an assumed responsibility as to me ca cool de source meaning it is obvious to us that to achieve good business relationships with people the latter is required.
It's not to say that we dismiss people who do not and we are fully aware that some will embody all 5 assumed responsibilities and some will not uphold any or just a few 1, 2, or 3 at most and that being honest knowing that it is not everyone who can uphold assumed responsibilities and therefore it is considered as an ideal behaviour.
Self-directed
It's the ability to make your own decisions and organise your work rather than being told what to do. In business self-directed teams and work structured opportunities and help your business to be more efficient.
If you apply this concept to your business you will be more inclined to plan your activities and develop business goals to achieve your vision and develop a structured methodology to get there. Self-directed learning promotes the natural development of self-confidence, initiative, perseverance, and business satisfaction.
Researchers have highlighted the motivational benefit component of self-directed learning arguing that this kind of learning and approach to self is effective because it makes you more willing and motivated to learn and grow as it helps memorise information and retain it over time.
